Cleo loves bows. She wears her hair in a bow and decorates her room with bows. Cleo is bow crazy. Learning to tie a bow is very difficult for some people but Cleo remembers how to do it from a cute story she once heard. It is about a little rabbit with very long ears and a very helpful fox who shows her what to do to keep them clean. This is the story of how Cleo learns to tie a “bunny ear” bow. Exercises in manual dexterity build self-esteem in children. Knowing how to tie shoestrings, scarves and more into a bow is a useful and rewarding skill. Teach a child a useful skill. Build confidence and self-esteem that lasts a lifetime. Other books in the Learn To Tie With The Rabbit and the Fox series are the book with that name in English, Spanish, and Tagalog plus Nellie Knows How To Knot A Neck Scarf and Ned Knows How To Knot A Necktie.

Cleo Can Tie a Bow: A Rabbit and Fox Story by Sybrina Durant is an adorable picture book that teaches children how to tie bows.  Durant's use of storytelling creates a fun and entertaining way that shows young readers not only how to tie bows for their hair, but for their shoelaces too.  In this story, Cleo is obsessed with bows.  She loves everything about them and has them everywhere. To help her remember how to tie her bunny's ears into a bow, she creates a story about how a fox helps a rabbit tie her ears together into a bow so she doesn't get them dirty.  The story is broken into two parts.  The first part is Cleo and her love for bows.  The second is Cleo's story about the fox and the rabbit.  At the end of the story, Durant shares a catchy song (along with a video link), about Cleo learning how to tie a bow.

The illustrations by Pumudi Gardiyawasam are cute and colorful that will appeal to young readers.  Gardiyawasam has a clear separation in color scheme when the story is about Cleo, and when the story is about the fox and the rabbit.  Cleo's pages are mostly pink, while the fox and rabbit's story is told in the forest with vivid greens and oranges.  There is a beautiful and distinct contrast between the two "worlds" in the book.

An adorable and educational way to learn how to tie bows and/or teach the steps to others. A great addition to your home or school library!  Perfect for ages 2-6 years old, with assistance, since it's a little too complicated for young kids to tie the bows by only looking at the pictures.

4 Stars!

Lone Star Book Blog Tour: MIA AND NATTIE: ONE GREAT TEAM! by Marlene M. Bell ***REVIEW & GIVEAWAY***

Mia and Nattie:
One Great Team!

Genre: Children's Picture Book (K-3rd Grade) / Farm Animals

Date of Publication: October 4, 2020
Number of Pages: 34 pages

Nattie’s mouth was a little crooked. Her legs were a bit shorter than usual, and one horn was too straight, like a unicorn’s horn.

But Mia thought Nattie was perfect.

On a visit to her grandma’s farm, eight-year-old Mia discovers a newborn, orphaned lamb outside in the cold and takes her to the laundry room, naming her Nattie. As she tries to nurse the lamb back to health, Mia discovers that Nattie is different from the other lambs and struggles to fit in with them like Mia does with other kids her age.

When her grandmother says she will sell Nattie to a neighbor, Mia must come up with a plan to keep her friend around — one that will show the family just how special Nattie truly is.

Mia and Nattie: One Great Team! by Marlene M. Bell is an adorable picture book about friendship, compassion, and helping others.  When Mia finds little Nattie, she knows that she is different from the other sheep.  With her small size and unusual horn and smile, Mia knew Nattie needed her help if she wanted her to stay on the farm.  But, with a little creativity and a lot of determination, Mia was not only able to keep Nattie, but help her find her life’s purpose.

The story of Mia and Nattie is a great example of overcoming obstacles and how to treat others with compassion and kindness.  Mia could have easily let her grandma sell Nattie to the neighbors, but she knew that Nattie could thrive on their farm and be a good sheep just like the rest.  She just needed to figure out how.  The author does a great job showing how strong Mia is even though she is just a small child. With all the odds against Nattie, Mia’s true strength was not in her size but in her determination and problem solving skills.  When the opportunity presented itself, Mia knew just how Nattie could help on the farm.  A great lesson for young children who feel helpless, and like Nattie, have to live with some sort of disadvantage.  Mia and Nattie’s story shows that everyone, no matter their circumstances, can help others and overcome obstacles.

The illustrations of Grace Sandford work perfectly with Mia and Nattie’s story.  The color scheme of blue, green, and brown give that farm-like country feel as you read the story.  The child-like imagery of Mia, her grandmother, and all the animals fit the story well. Sandford creates an adorable Nattie with her fluffy-looking fur and odd-shaped horn that will keep readers rooting for her happy ending.

Mia and Nattie: One Great Team! would make a great addition to your child’s or school library, and it's perfect for themed lessons on friendship and helping others.  It's a heartwarming read from start to finish!

5 Stars!

Focused on a career in medicine and not on romance, Willa Duvall is thrown slightly off course during the summer of 1859 when she discovers a never-opened love letter in a crack of her old writing desk. Compelled to find the passionate soul who penned it and the person who never received it, she takes a job as a nurse at the seaside estate of Crestwicke Manor.

Everyone at Crestwicke has feelings
mostly negative onesabout the man who wrote the letter, but he seems to have disappeared. With plenty of enticing clues but few answers, Willa's search becomes even more complicated when she misplaces the letter and it passes from person to person in the house, each finding a thrilling or disheartening message in its words.

Laced with mysteries large and small, this romantic Victorian-era tale of love lost, love deferred, and love found is sure to delight.

Public Service Announcement from Willa Duvall,
protagonist of The Love Note by Joanna Davidson Politano

Men are quick to propose to Willa Duvall, but do they know her at all? She’s more than her father’s able assistant in his clinic—more than the average hopeful romantic. Willa would like to pass these facts along to any men who might take an interest in her in the future, in an effort to weed out the ones who have no idea what they’re getting into.

Top 5 things that might surprise you about me:

As a child, I socked a bully in the nose. I may have been quiet, but I couldn’t stand by while he bullied the dearest person I know for a stutter. The little ingrate dragged his governess all the way to the barn to point me out as the culprit for his “broken” nose (which was actually just bloodied), but I didn’t get in trouble. She took one look at me and boxed the boy’s ears for lying.

I won’t be home to make you dinner every night. Not if there are lives to save. There are precious few doctors to look after the unfortunates in this world, and if they need me, so be it; you can make your own lamb stew.

Conversations with me may involve germ theories and infectious bacteria. If that doesn’t fascinate you, I probably won’t either.

I’m wild as a stallion, so expect to give me my head now and again. I have a lot of strength and I need to use it.

I have a lot of opinions and energy and a great amount of ambition. And even though I’m prickly toward men at times, I secretly—very secretly—long to fall in love with a man who surprises and impresses me with each layer I peel back.

Joanna Davidson Politano is the award-winning author of Lady Jayne Disappears and A Rumored Fortune. She loves tales that capture the colorful, exquisite details in ordinary lives and is eager to hear anyone's story.

She lives with her husband and their two kids in a house in the woods near Lake Michigan. You can find her at www.jdpstories.com.
