In Dangerous Beauty by Melissa Koslin, Liliana Vela is on the run. She has escaped her human trafficking kidnapers, but is lost somewhere in America. Meric Toledan, a high-profile business man, just wanted to grab a water bottle at the local convenience store when he learns a disheveled woman is hiding in the bathroom. He realizes something is wrong when he sees her battered appearance and the two men who are obviously waiting for her to come out. Meric helps Liliana escape, but because her family was killed in Mexico she has nowhere to go to be safe. So, he does the only thing he can think of to keep her from being sent back to Mexico where she will likely be taken again - he marries her.
It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that I just didn't want to put down. I knew from the first sentence this one was going to be a real page turner. I was right, Dangerous Beauty did not disappoint! Right from the beginning, you are drawn into Liliana’s journey of escape from her trafficking kidnappers. Meric is a wealthy businessman, but he is a tortured soul because of his tragic past. While trying to keep Liliana safe and keep his secrets hidden, Meric is trying to navigate his growing feelings for his new “wife.” Koslin did a great job with the character development of Liliana and Meric. Liliana is a strong character who draws strength from God to get her through her horrific experience and the loss of her parents and sister. She slowly grows from a frightened and traumatized young woman to someone who finds the courage to not only move on, but to help other women who are being trafficked as well. Meric is cold and distant and keeps Liliana at arms length because he doesn’t want to get too close to her. He thinks he doesn’t deserve her, but his kindness comes through whenever she needs anything or is in danger.
Overall, I loved Dangerous Beauty! Koslin does a great job keeping the suspense and romance going throughout the story. I especially liked the plot twist at the end, it was not expected! I highly recommend you don’t start this book unless you have the time to read it in one sitting! What a great story of survival, love, and redemption. Can't wait to read more Melissa Koslin books! 5 Stars!
PRAISE FOR DANGEROUS BEAUTY:
“Do not start this book until you have the time to read it in one gulp. This is a really fresh twist on a marriage of convenience with the potential for pages of suspense. The hero and heroine are each hugely compelling, and I just wanted to protect them both. It’s also a sweet story of the healing power of hope. Highly recommend this novel for those who adore romantic suspense with a fresh twist.” --Cara Putman, award-winning author of Flight Risk and Lethal Intent
“Koslin brings the underworld of human trafficking to life in a gripping yet redemptive plot.” –Booklist
